East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed his support for the help that the Department for Communities (DfC) and Department for the Economy are preparing to provide for workers at Kilroot Power Station who will lose their jobs as a result of the closure.
Mr Dickson said: “Following an inquiry by my office, it has been confirmed that the DfC officials have already been involved in discussions with AES Kilroot Management to design a tailored package of redundancy support which will provide advice and support to those seeking retraining and alternative work opportunities.
“While I regret the approaching closure of Kilroot Power Station, it is encouraging to see the DfC readily providing support for the workers whose livelihoods are at risk.
“This support ranges from advice on retraining opportunities to information about benefit entitlements, with Redundancy Clinics expected to be delivered in the coming weeks.”
