East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has said Sammy Wilson MP should “really engage his brain before speaking” after the East Antrim MP branded the Taoiseach “a nutcase”.
“It is totally unacceptable for a Member of Parliament to call anyone, never mind the leader of a sovereign state, "a nutcase". It is offensive to all, not least those suffering mental ill-health. Nobody should be using terms such as this,” said Mr Dickson.
“These kind of arrogant, unpleasant comments are unfortunately often a hallmark of Sammy Wilson’s style. This latest incident has only demonstrated his lack of respect and a limited understanding of how his comments affect how others view East Antrim and the wider Northern Ireland.
“I welcome the fact Mr Wilson has now expressed regret for his choice of language. Political debate is always welcome, but he really should engage his brain before lashing out in such a manner again.”
