Dickson Welcomes Update on Neurology Patient Recall

East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has welcomed an update on the work of the Department of Health, on the recall of neurology patients previously in the care of Dr Michael Watt. Concerns in regards to a small number of patients were raised in late 2016 and early 2017 in relation to the care and treatment of patients by Dr Watt, and subsequently Health and Social Care Northern Ireland sought to review specific groups of Dr Watt’s patients. Mr Dickson commented: “I was mostly assured at my meeting with the Department on Tuesday 30th October, that things were progressing well. It is vital that patients are being reassured and given as much guidance and information as possible as they wa

Dickson Says ‘Farms Not Factories’ are Best for Communities and Food Welfare

Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson has helped launch a film criticising intensive industrial meat production in Northern Ireland, saying we should be aiming for ‘Farms, not Factories’ when it comes to agrifood. Mr Dickson was speaking after the screening of Pig Business in Northern Ireland at Parliament Buildings, which shows the impact the farms can have on neighbouring communities. Proposed ‘mega farms’ are planned for parts of Northern Ireland, with the factories designed to house around 20,000 pigs each. “This documentary is an opportunity to showcase the impact these farms will have on residents, whose lives will be afflicted by the emissions pumped out round the clock, while picturesque surr

Dickson Backs ‘Save Our Childcare Vouchers’ Campaign

Alliance East Antrim, Stewart Dickson, has said the UK Government has ‘seriously let parents down’ by ending the childcare voucher scheme for new members. Mr Dickson commented: “This Government appears to be interested in talking about childcare and supporting working families rather than actually investing in them. The UK continually lags other European countries in childcare provision and the ending of childcare vouchers for new parents is so damaging and leaves working families and employers worse off. “That’s why I commend Employers for Childcare’s submission to HM Treasury and their call for the UK Government to invest in childcare services.” Parents who may be concerned about their ent

Dickson Says Whitehead and Islandmagee Residents ‘In the Dark’ After Street Lights Removed

East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed his concern after it emerged that the Department for Infrastructure (DFI) has removed streetlights in Whitehead and Islandmagee. Mr Dickson commented: “I have been contacted by numerous residents of both Whitehead and Islandmagee over the pasts two days, who are upset by the unexplained removal of streetlights. These are rural, but well populated areas, and streetlights help keep pedestrians safe, particularly schoolchildren – so the removal of lighting therefore presents a danger to safety. “I have written to DFI asking for a full explanation of this development, which I understand was done without consultation. I am seeking the reins
